Pharmacological action
 
Broad-spectrum antibiotic. Bacteriostatic action due to suppression of protein synthesis of pathogens. It is active against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Including penicillinase; Streptococcus spp.; Clostridium spp., Listeria spp., Bacillus anthracis) and Gram-negative bacteria (Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Bordetella pertussis, Enterobacter, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp. , Salmonella spp., Shigella spp.), and Rickettsia spp., Chlamydia spp., Mycoplasma spp., Spirochaetaceae. Tetracycline-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, Serratia spp., Most strains of Bacteroides fragilis, most fungi, smaller viruses.
 
Pharmacokinetics
 
After oral administration, 60-80% of the dose is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Rapidly distributed in most tissues and body fluids. Passes through the placenta and is excreted in breast milk. Excreted in the urine and feces as unchanged.
 
Statement
 
Infectious-inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to tetracycline, including pneumonia, bronchitis, empyema, angina, cholecystitis, pyelonephritis, intestinal infections, endocarditis, endometritis, prostatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, brucellosis, rickettsiosis, purulent soft tissue infections, osteomyelitis, trachoma, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, acne.

Dosing regimen
 
Into adults - 250-500 mg every 6 hours for children older than 8 years prescribed by 25-50 mg / kg every 6 hours

Side effect

Pregnancy and lactation
 
Tetracycline crosses the placenta. May cause long-term discoloration of the teeth, enamel hypoplasia, inhibition of growth of bones of the fetus. In addition, tetracycline can cause development of fatty liver. Therefore, tetracycline is contraindicated during pregnancy.
If necessary, use during lactation should stop breastfeeding.
 
Cautions
 
With careful use of tetracycline with leukopenia.
Tetracycline is not used in children younger than 8 years, since it causes long-term discoloration of the teeth, enamel hypoplasia and retardation of longitudinal growth of bones in these patients.
Tetracycline should not be taken together with milk and other dairy products, as this breaks its absorption.
 
Drug Interactions
